MLB 2K7 PS3 Version Inferior to 360

In an article on IGN, the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the upcoming MLB 2K7 are briefly compared. Somewhat surprisingly it seems that there are some significant differences between the two. - The 360 version simply looks better. The colors pop. The animations, at this point, run smoother. So much for spending $600.
- To top it off, while full 30-man online leagues will be available on the 360, right now the PS3 plan is for up to 12-man leagues (although the team is pushing hard to get 30-man teams in the PS3 version as well, but it might be too much to ask).
- What do you get if you're a PS3 owner? You get the ability to swing your bat by pushing the controller forward in a motion like you're sliding the soup back to the waiter because you just found a fly in your minestrone. First swing I took with the PS3 controller, I hit a homerun. Does that mean it's too easy? We'll wait and see, but something like this, in my opinion, would be better off left to the homerun derby. If you're preaching authenticity, it seems contradictory to then all of a sudden tell people that they have hold the controller flat out in front of their body then push it forward to swing. At least when you're playing Wii Sports, you're swinging the controller like a bat. Here, something about the experience just seems awkward. You can keep the soup.
The cross-platform sports titles are generally expected to be nearly identical in areas of performance and visuals this generation. In a time where negativity surrounds everything PS3 this is just more bad news. Adding in gimmicky uses for the sixaxis that no one cares about really doesn't help either. Not having rumble is a huge disadvantage for the sports games and that doesn't make up for it. At least PS3 owners will have the choice between 2K7 and MLB 07: The Show.

Re: MLB 2k7
Hard to tell if you are a fan of the PS3 or the X360! or an on the fence fan. You make some good points. But others mocking the Sixaxis if you're a PS3 fan, do no good.
What IGN did bring up that's important, is all versions of different games on different platforms, will display differently. No platform including a top of the line PC will always be the same or better than any other cross platform game. In fact some games that were originally developed for the Wii, let's say, and then ported to the other platforms, will most likely look better on the Wii. It's posible even with the others being superior hardware.
Meanwhile the Sony Hate Train Keeps rolling in a country that is just as biased in a country, as those in Japan. Naturally this generation will be different with X360 taking the early lead. It doesn't mean that as we go through the innings in this real life game, that the final score won't be different. That's never guaranteed in anything having to do with LIFE!
MLB 2K7 may end up looking better on X360. But then again it may end up looking similiar to NBA 2k7 on PS3. Decidedly better, with more time to match the code to the PS3. Other sports games being ported to PS3, may not be so lucky. Plus it's all relative to indivitual opinion. Which even among IGN staff varies greatly. One got "Bricked" by X360 update. Another might be in bed with Steve "Monkey Man" Balmer's wife. Each has his own personal point of view that clouds an honest perspective!
I'll admit that when I play various games on both consoles or one that's also on PC. Some will look better on the X360 or PC. It's all going to vary no matter how hard the developer tries to equal them all out.
If any of us from any platform end up getting b*tt hurt about this, then we miss the point of playing games in the first place. It's like playing golf, everyone has a handicap to contend with, but you don't let that influence how you play and enjoy it.
In my final statement I will confirm that the real competition is between MLB 2k7 and MLB O7: The Show!
Like type games, going about it in different ways on the same platform. On this one I'll pick the first party developer to get it right, mainly because they are not dealing with any other platform with a balancing act.
Just my spin on it! BTW "gimmicky" is a word that should never be used in the same sentence as the "Sixaxis"! Because of it's complexity and has yet to be fully appreciated. It works using entirely different concepts than the WiiMote or the many other Motion Sensing controllers out there. What Sony did different is something never done before on anything comparable. They took the common "Accelerometers" (used in Wii) for that work like a a bubble in a level, or a bearing in a tube and combined it with an electronic gyro device that you may see in the Jeep direction detection system. The latter is what makes Sixaxis so much more accurate than any other system out there with motion sensing (which there's many). That's why the learning curve will be longer in comparison to WiiMote. In the end as Developers get the hang of just how sensitive and accurate it is, and as we gamers learn to adopt to it, we will all find it a fresh experience. As far as rumble? I don't miss it, have other things to replace it!
But if I did, there are controllers I can use to get it. Right now I race in GTHD with a Force Feedback Wheel and it works fine. Other feedback related devices can replace rumble in the future. A real physical powerful gyro like you spun with a string or battery powered motor as a kid, would be excellent as feedback placed in the bottom of the controller. Ever try to hold a gyro and tilt it? It pushes back and wants to remain level! For flying it would be excellent and feel like a real stick in a Helicopter. Hasn't been done yet!
How about using sound transducers? One in the controller itself? Also hasn't been done yet! Feel the kick of a gun that would feel more real and be more accurate than any rumble pak that's basically a vibrator motor out of a dildo.
I have a "Buttkicker" installed in my gaming chair and one in my sofa. Buttkicker uses sound through a transducer to actually move you silently. If I was to attach that monster to a light weight chair, I can literally move it accross the floor and you will think the Havoc physics engine got a hold of it! So just imagine that being in the Sixaxis! ;)
