Avoid Boredom With Madden Moments
Every year those of us who play Madden religiously hit "the wall" at some point. For some of us, we hit it multiple times. Think back to how many times you play non-stop for 2-3 months at a time only to feel that you've done everything in this year's edition. You leave the game alone for a few weeks, maybe a month, and then pick it back up as if it just hit the streets. Ultimately, you hit that wall again. This is where the Madden Moments come into play. No, it's not going to solve this problem once and for all; but when the time comes where you've gotten burnt out, take some time and play through this feature.
Although the Madden Moments are not a completely original idea, it's reintroduction to the game with a spin has made it a worthwhile endeavor. Madden 2009 comes with 34 of these 'moments' that are arguably some of the greatest moments from the 2008 NFL season. Not time consuming, these moments can go either the way it happened in real life, or how it could have gone. Case in point, one Madden Moment you're required to re-create the heroics of Eli Manning in the New York Giants to beat the Patriots as we saw in the Super Bowl. Yet, another moment you play as the Eagles and have to upset the Patriots as many thought would happen.
Perhaps my favorite of these moments is "Shock the Patriots." You take control of the Philadelphia Eagles in the 4th quarter against the Patriots. You're up 28-24, with 8:46 to go. Your objective is to do what most of us thought the Eagles were going to do during this game last
year, end the Patriots perfect run. This moment is different than most of the others as you have to hold the Patriots for over 8 minutes. Generally you're given 1-3 minutes to accomplish the task.
One of the greatest aspects of the Madden Moments is you're put into situations that you don't commonly get to play during your typical game of Madden. One of the more challenging would be "Dawg Pound Unleashed." You're given control of the Browns with 26 seconds in the game, no timeouts, down 30-27. In order to complete this task, you've got to drive down the length of the field and score.
Ultimately, the Madden Moments are not going to alter your game play significantly; however, they do offer great practice for certain situations. The "Dawg Pound Unleashed" requires for you to work the sidelines to drive down the field quickly. Others require you to hone your return skills. This feature allows you to take a step back from your franchise or online play when things begin to become repetitive and try your skills in a wide variety of situations. So next time you find yourself getting bored with Madden, take some time and play through some of these Madden Moments and see how well you can re-create history; or change it.
