Being able to bring heat from any play within a formation can elevate your defense in Madden 09. The ability to switch back and forth between different man and zone defenses should enable you to disguise your coverages better, while still placing a great amount of pressure on the opposition In this tip, SportsGamer's going to showcase a simple way that you can create instant pressure on the quarterback using any play from the 46 Bear formation. There are a few quick setups steps before the snap in order to bring the heat, so read below as we take you step by step through the process!
Quick Setup
Step 1 - Flip the play out of the huddle (360 - X + RT / PS3 - Square + R2).
Step 2 - Hot route all four members of your defensive line to blitz straight down (360 - Move icon onto player, then press A + right analog stick down / PS3 - Move icon onto player, then press X + right analog stick down).
Step 3 - (optional) Place the fastest member of your defensive line in at the the #2 position on the depth chart for defensive tackles.
Play Breakdown
Step 3 of the setup process may be listed as optional above. However, if you really want to get the most out of this defense you'll make the substitutions before the game begins to ensure success. The first thing you'll want to do if you're going to use Step 3 is take out your #2 defensive tackle.
Next, you'll want to replace your #2 starter with the fastest member of your defensive line. Parker may have been the backup by default, but his 79 speed compared to Bunkley's 65 is a huge difference on the field. Despite showing the substitution above, we're going to run this play through using the default rosters instead to demonstrate just how effective this play can still be.
This is what the defensive assignments look like on the field before we have made any adjustments. The 46 Bear Cover 3 is a great play to utilize a blitz out of because it has solid coverages across the field.
After we've exited the huddle we flip the play to move our defenders into position.
Next, we pinch the defensive line down and hot route all four members of our defensive line to blitz. Now we've setup the pressure to come and we're ready to begin the play.
