(Curent Gen) Breaking Down the Most Effective Quick Pass Route in the Game

November 5, 2006 8:07 pm - Author: Dan Salazar

The hot-routed Slant route is by far the most effective quick pass in Madden 2007. The great thing about this pass is the fact that you can throw it no matter if your receiver beats the bump to the inside or the outside. Also, if your opponent decides not to bump at all, then you can easily complete this pass for a gain of 5-10 yards. This route basically must be double-teamed in order to be stopped. Watch as SportsGamer reveals what many top players across the country are doing to take their game to the highest level.

Quick Setup

Step 1 - hot route any receiver to perform a slant to the nearest sidelines. (XBOX - Y + receiver's icon + right trigger / PS2 - Triangle + receiver's icon + R2).

Figure 1 - In this first image you can see that we have hot routed the receiver on the far right side of the field to perform a slant route towards the right sidelines. Now we are ready to begin the play.

Figure 2 - Immediately after the snap the cornerback bumps the receiver. We anticipate our receiver beating the bump in just another second, so we prepare to make the throw in the pocket.

Figure 3 - We make the throw by pressing up on the directional padd just as our receiver releases from the bump.

Figure 4 - Our receiver goes into a sliding animation that allows him to create separation from the cornerback.

Figure 5 - The receiver makes the catch with plenty of rooom to run upfiueld for extra yardage.

Figure 6 - This time the receiver beats the bump to the inside. Whenever our receiver beats the bump in this fashion it is even easier to make the pass.

Figure 7 - We again release by the pass by pressing up on the directional pad just as we see our receiver get inside position.

Figure 8 - The receiver leaps into the air to make the easy catch over the defender.

Figure 9 - Next, the defense decides not to bump at all to try to throw the timing of this pass off. Unfortunately, deciding not to bump is one of the worst decisions that our opponent can make.

Figure 10 - We make the throw to the receiver as soon as we realize that our opponent is not bumping.

Figure 11 - The receiver leaps into the air to make the easy catch for a nice gain.

Final Conclusion

The Slant quick pass is incredibly difficult to stop, espescially when using a team that has a good quarterback. The best combination that you will find when attempting this pass is a quarterback that throws hard, and a receiver that does not beat the bump too quickly. The reason that you don't want you receiver to beat the bump too quickly is because this will make throws to the outside much harder. This is a throw that requires timing an precision, but when mastered, it can be near impossible to stop. Head into practice mode to see just how effective this route can be.

I had someone do this to me all game... how do you stop it?

Use the Cover 2/Man delayed bump...it will screw up the timing of this play and force knockdowns or picks.
If you had it run on you all game long, it means you were probably calling man-lock-bump all game long.
